Where To Stay In Salento, Colombia Throughout 2022: The 3 Best Areas And Hotels
Dec 26, 2023 By Juliana Daniel

Tourists could not visit the Salento area of Colombia because guerilla organizations were in control of the site. As one of our favorite places we visited during our two weeks in Colombia, the picturesque village of Salento, the nation, was a highlight. This area is beautiful, from the far mountains to the colorful town and lively center plaza. Where should I stay in Salento? This is a question you may have if you're arranging a vacation here. Those looking for a place to stay in Salento will be relieved that the region isn't vast.

The Top Three Places To Stay In Salento, Colombia

When determining where to stay in Salento, I will explain all the factors you need to consider in detail in this post. While in Salento, you have your pick of three distinct areas: the city itself, the immediate suburbs, or the rural areas outside. Each option has benefits and drawbacks, so let's get right in. Salento is not known for its "high-end, luxury" hotels; instead, most of the city's lodgings are more in line with the middle or lower ranges of price and quality.

In the Village of Salento

The town of Salento is a tourist hotspot due to its attractive architecture and vibrant atmosphere. Plaza de Bolivar and the Iglesia Nuestra Senora del Carmen are Salento's most popular tourist attractions. Take advantage of the plaza's food stalls and the impromptu performances and musical acts later in the day or evening. Get a ride in one of the willy jeeps waiting in the town center. Explore the shops along the famed Calle Real and take in the street's brightly painted doorways, windows, and moldings. To get a bird's eye view of the city, visit the Mirador Alto de la Cruz or Mirador de Salento. Go out and about aimlessly. Visit one of the town's many excellent eateries. For all its many attractions, staying in the center of Salento is a must if you want to make the most of your time there. Fortunately, the downtown area has several alternatives to choose from.

Pros:

We are conveniently located in the heart of town, the bus terminal, and the city's public transportation system (the willy jeeps).

Cons:

The benefits and drawbacks of being in the city's heart cannot be overstated.

The Best Places to Stay in Salento Are Located Outside of the City

This section focuses on neighborhoods on the outskirts of town since they are a 5- to 10-minute stroll from the center. Here you may enjoy the benefits of being near Salento's urban core while simultaneously feeling like you're out in the country.

Pros:

Positioned conveniently enough to all the action but far enough away to enjoy quiet time alone, this location strikes the right balance.

Cons:

Suppose you feel like you need to walk the 5-10 minutes into town, don't. There are more animals in some outlying areas, and their noise may be a nuisance.

Salento's Best Places to Stay: The Countryside

The scenery of Colombia's coffee triangle is stunning, and there are some lovely places to stay outside the main cities. Glamping sites, eco-lodges, and other lodgings that emphasize creating a unique and memorable experience are typical of this kind. If you're looking for a place to stay in Salento where you can unwind and appreciate nature, this is it. Waterfalls, rivers, and horseback riding await you in the countryside. When staying in certain rural B&Bs, you may get a glimpse into rural life by visiting a functioning coffee or livestock farm. Regarding rural Salento, the Cocora Valley is where it's at, and several hotels and B&Bs in the area cater to tourists.

Pros:

Peaceful setting, alternative lodging options, and proximity to natural features. If the Cocora Valley is your major destination while in the area, you'll find several accommodations close to it.

Cons:

A ride or a long walk will be needed to get you into town from here.

Conclusion

Beautiful Salento may be found in the highlands of Colombia's coffee-growing area. Cocora Valley, where you can view Colombia's famed wax palms, is far from this quaint little village.
